Allied Telesis

Prepare Allied Telesis devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers switches running AlliedWare Plus and the AT-8000S / AT-8000GS series.

AlliedWare Plus

AlliedWare Plus runs on current Allied Telesis switches, including the x-series (x230, x510, x930 and similar) and SBx families.

Create a backup account. Displaying the running configuration requires privilege level 15, so create the account at that level:

configure terminal
username netwatch-backup privilege 15 password <password>

There is no lower privilege level that can display the full configuration; the dedicated account keeps backup activity identifiable in logs.

Enable SSH access. Generate a host key, enable the SSH server, and explicitly allow the backup user (AlliedWare Plus denies SSH users that are not on the allow list):

crypto key generate hostkey rsa
service ssh
ssh server allow-users netwatch-backup

To restrict sources, apply a management ACL to the VTY lines or your management VRF so only the collector's IP can reach TCP port 22.

AT-8000S / AT-8000GS series

These stackable Fast Ethernet and Gigabit switches run a separate, menu-plus-CLI software image that predates AlliedWare Plus.

Create a backup account. Create a local user named netwatch-backup with the highest privilege level (15) in the user accounts settings — on this platform only privileged users can display the running configuration.

Enable SSH access. Enable the SSH server in the management settings and generate the switch's SSH host keys. If your firmware supports a management ACL, restrict management access to the collector's IP address. On very old firmware without SSH, Telnet may be the only option; restrict it accordingly.

Notes. For stacked units, back up the stack master's management IP; the configuration covers all members.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
