Riverbed
Prepare Riverbed devices for QUARK Config Backup.
This guide covers Riverbed SteelHead WAN optimization appliances.
Create a dedicated backup account
In the SteelHead web UI, open the security and user permissions settings and create an account named netwatch-backup. SteelHead supports role-based accounts: start with read-only (monitor-level) permissions. Note that monitor-level accounts may not be shown protected fields of the configuration on some releases; if your backups come back incomplete, grant the account administrator permissions instead — QUARK remains strictly read-only regardless of the account's rights.
Enable SSH access
The SSH CLI is available on the appliance's primary management interface by default; confirm the QUARK collector can reach it on TCP port 22. Use the appliance's management access controls, or an upstream firewall, to limit SSH access to the collector's IP address.
Platform notes
- The SteelHead CLI is modal: displaying the full running configuration requires entering privileged (enable) mode. If enable mode is protected by a separate password on your appliance, record it in QUARK with the credentials.
- QUARK backs up the appliance's own configuration; optimized traffic and datastore contents are not touched.
Enable backup in Netwatch
Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
