Netgear
Prepare Netgear devices for QUARK Config Backup.
This guide covers Netgear managed switches, including the M4300/M4500 and other fully managed families with a CLI.
Netgear switches
Create a backup account. Create a dedicated local user — for example netwatch-backup — in the switch's web UI user-account settings or via the CLI. On Netgear managed switches the full running configuration is displayed from privileged (enable) mode, so give the account read-write privilege level 15, or a lower level together with the enable password stored in QUARK. QUARK never sends configuration changes.
Enable SSH. Enable the SSH server in the switch's security or management access settings (on most models under the access configuration in Security > Access). Where the firmware supports management ACLs or an access profile, restrict SSH to the Netwatch collector's IP address.
Platform notes.
- Smart Managed (GS-series "smart") switches with web-only management are not covered by this guide; it applies to fully managed models with an SSH CLI.
- If the enable password differs from the login password, record both in the QUARK device entry.
Enable backup in Netwatch
Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
