Hirschmann

Prepare Hirschmann devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers Hirschmann industrial switches running the Classic software (for example RS20/RS30 and MACH families) and switches running HiOS (for example RSP, GRS, and MSP families).

Classic

Create a backup account. Create a dedicated netwatch-backup account in the switch's user management (web UI or CLI). On Classic software, displaying the complete configuration requires read-write (administrator) access, so assign administrator rights.

Enable SSH. Enable the SSH server in the switch's security/management access settings. Some older Classic releases support only Telnet — in that case use Telnet on a trusted, isolated management network. If the switch supports restricted management access (allowed IP addresses), permit the Netwatch collector's IP.

Notes. QUARK reads the configuration only; it does not write to the switch, so backups are safe to run on production industrial networks.

HiOS

Create a backup account. Create a dedicated netwatch-backup user in the web UI under the device security user management. HiOS provides graded access roles; the auditor role is read-only, but on many releases the operator or administrator role is required to display the full configuration — verify on one device and use the lowest role that works.

Enable SSH. Enable the SSH server in the device security management access settings and confirm reachability from the Netwatch collector on TCP port 22. Use the management access (restricted management) settings to limit access to the collector's IP where configured.

Notes.

  • QUARK retrieves the running configuration over the CLI with show commands only.
  • If you deploy configuration via HiDiscovery or an engineering tool, QUARK's history is a useful independent record of what is actually running on each switch.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
