VSOL

Prepare VSOL devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers VSOL GPON OLTs, such as the V1600 series.

Create a backup account

Create a dedicated account — for example netwatch-backup — through the OLT's CLI user management or web interface. Displaying the complete running configuration, including ONU authorization and service provisioning, requires privileged (enable) mode on this platform, so give the account administrative privilege or record the enable password in QUARK so it can elevate after login. If your firmware only ships with the default admin account, change its password and store those credentials instead. QUARK only reads the configuration and never modifies the OLT.

Enable management access

Many VSOL OLTs ship with Telnet as the default CLI transport; newer firmware supports SSH. Enable the SSH server in the management settings where available and prefer it over Telnet — fall back to Telnet only on firmware without SSH.

Restrict management access to the Netwatch collector's IP using the OLT's management ACL if your firmware provides one, or with an ACL on the upstream aggregation switch otherwise.

Platform notes

  • Verify manually that the account can display the full configuration before adding the device — privilege behavior varies between firmware builds.
  • The running configuration includes ONU provisioning, which makes the versioned history valuable for restoring subscriber services after a chassis replacement.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
