Perle

Prepare Perle devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers Perle IOLAN console servers and terminal servers.

Create a dedicated backup account

Create a user named netwatch-backup in the IOLAN's user management page (available in both the web UI and the CLI). Assign the account the Admin user level: IOLAN restricts viewing and exporting the full unit configuration to admin-level users, so a lower level (Normal, Restricted, or Menu) is not sufficient for backups.

Enable SSH access

Enable the SSH service in the IOLAN's network services settings if it is not already running, and make sure the management IP is reachable from the QUARK collector. If you have Telnet enabled for day-to-day console access, you can still disable it for management and keep SSH only. Where your model supports management access filtering, restrict SSH management to the QUARK collector's IP address.

Platform notes

  • QUARK reads the configuration through the IOLAN's CLI over SSH; no serial connection is involved.
  • Ensure the account is set to land in the CLI rather than a session menu, so automated retrieval is not interrupted by port-selection prompts.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
