SmartByte
Prepare SmartByte devices for QUARK Config Backup.
This guide covers SmartByte LT-S8228G series managed switches.
Create a dedicated backup account
Create a local user named netwatch-backup through the switch's web UI or CLI user management. Assign the administrator privilege level: on this platform the full running configuration can only be displayed with administrator rights, and lower-privilege accounts see only status output.
Enable SSH access
Enable the SSH server in the switch's management settings if the firmware provides one; on builds that only offer Telnet, enable Telnet instead and confine the management network so that only the QUARK collector can reach it. Once SSH is confirmed working, disable Telnet. If the firmware supports a management access list, restrict management sessions to the collector's IP address.
Platform notes
- If privileged mode is protected by a separate enable password, record it in QUARK with the login credentials.
- Change any factory default administrator password before putting the switch under automated backup.
Enable backup in Netwatch
Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
