Supermicro

Prepare Supermicro devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers Supermicro Ethernet switches: the SSE-G2252 gigabit series, the SSE-G48/G24 series, the SSE-X 10G/40G series, and the SBM/XEM SuperBlade switch modules.

SSE-G2252 / SSE-G2252P

Backup account. Create a local user named netwatch-backup through the web UI or CLI user management and give it the administrator privilege level; displaying the full running configuration requires privileged access.

SSH access. Enable the SSH server in the switch's management settings — Telnet may be the factory default — and disable Telnet once SSH is verified. If the firmware supports a management access list, restrict management to the QUARK collector's IP address.

Notes. Record the enable password in QUARK if privileged mode is separately protected.

SSE-G48-TG4 / SSE-G24-TG4

Backup account. Create netwatch-backup with the highest privilege level via the web UI or CLI; lower levels cannot display the complete configuration.

SSH access. Enable SSH management, confirm the collector can reach TCP port 22, then disable Telnet. Apply a management ACL limited to the collector's IP where the firmware provides one.

Notes. Add the enable password to the device entry in QUARK if one is configured.

SSE-X24S / X24SR / X3348S / X3348SR / X3348T / X3348TR

Backup account. Create netwatch-backup as an administrator-level local user; the platform requires privileged mode to show the full running configuration.

SSH access. Enable the SSH server in the management configuration and prefer it over Telnet. Restrict management sessions to the QUARK collector's IP using the switch's management ACL feature or an upstream firewall.

Notes. If a separate enable password is set, record it in QUARK with the login credentials.

SBM-GEM-X2C / X2C+ / X3S+ / XEM-X10SM

Backup account. These SuperBlade switch modules are managed through their own management IP, assigned via the chassis management module. Create netwatch-backup with administrator privilege in the module's web UI or CLI; privileged access is required to display the full configuration.

SSH access. Enable SSH on the module's management interface if the firmware provides it; on builds that only offer Telnet, enable Telnet and restrict reachability of the management network to the QUARK collector. Where a management access list is available, permit only the collector's IP.

Notes. Back up each switch module individually — the chassis management module does not hold the switch configurations. Record the enable password in QUARK if privileged mode is protected.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
