Seiko Solutions

Prepare Seiko Solutions devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers Seiko Solutions SmartCS and SmartCS mini console servers.

SmartCS

Backup account. Create a user named netwatch-backup through the SmartCS CLI or web UI. Displaying the complete unit configuration requires administrator privilege: either create the account with administrator rights, or create it as a general user and record the administrator (root) password in QUARK so it can elevate after login. QUARK performs read operations only.

SSH access. Enable the SSH server in the SmartCS service settings if it is not already running. SmartCS supports filtering of inbound management connections by source address — allow only the QUARK collector's IP for SSH.

Notes. Make sure the account logs into the management CLI rather than being attached directly to a serial port session, so automated retrieval is not captured by a console session.

SmartCS mini

Backup account. As on the full-size SmartCS, create netwatch-backup via the web UI or CLI, and ensure it can reach administrator privilege — the full configuration is only visible with administrator rights. Record the administrator password in QUARK if the account must elevate after login.

SSH access. Enable SSH in the unit's service settings and restrict inbound management access to the QUARK collector's IP address using the device's access filtering, or an upstream firewall.

Notes. Configure the account for CLI management access, not direct serial port attachment.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
