Hatteras

Prepare Hatteras devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers Hatteras Networks Ethernet-over-copper devices (HN series).

Create a backup account

Create a dedicated user named netwatch-backup in the device's user management. Assign a view/read-only privilege level if your software release can display the full configuration with it; otherwise assign administrator rights. QUARK only reads the configuration in either case.

Enable management access

Enable SSH management access in the device's management settings; if your software release supports only Telnet, use Telnet on a trusted management network. Confirm the device's management IP is reachable from the Netwatch collector, and restrict management sessions to the collector's IP if the device supports trusted-host or ACL settings.

Platform notes

  • Hatteras devices are often deployed at remote sites over the copper span they serve; make sure management reachability does not depend on the link you would need the backup to restore.
  • QUARK retrieves the configuration with show commands only and never modifies the device.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
