PLANET

Prepare PLANET devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers PLANET SG and SGS series managed switches.

Create a dedicated backup account

Create a local user named netwatch-backup through the switch's web UI user management page or its CLI. These platforms use an IOS-style privilege model: assign the account the highest (administrator) privilege level, because displaying the complete running configuration requires privileged access. Where the firmware offers only guest and admin levels, the account must be an admin — guest accounts cannot show the full configuration.

Enable SSH access

Enable the SSH server in the switch's management or security settings; on many SG/SGS models Telnet is enabled by default while SSH must be switched on explicitly. Prefer SSH and disable Telnet once SSH is confirmed working. If the firmware supports a management access list, restrict SSH management to the QUARK collector's IP address.

Platform notes

  • If the switch is configured with a separate enable password for privileged mode, record it in QUARK along with the login credentials.
  • Older firmware releases ship with weak SSH key sizes; update to a current firmware if the collector cannot negotiate a session.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
