Ericsson / Redback

This guide covers Ericsson IPOS (formerly Redback SEOS) routers and Ericsson MINI-LINK 6600 microwave nodes.

IPOS (former SEOS)

IPOS runs on Ericsson SmartEdge and SSR (Smart Services Router) platforms, originally the Redback SmartEdge line running SEOS.

Create a backup account. Create a dedicated administrator account named netwatch-backup in the local context of the router. IPOS does not offer a granular read-only role for configuration display, so grant the account administrator rights sufficient to show the full running configuration.

Enable SSH. Enable the SSH server on the management interface (or in the context used for management). If you use management ACLs on the router, permit the Netwatch collector's IP address for SSH.

Notes. QUARK only issues show commands and never enters configuration mode. If your routers authenticate administrators through RADIUS or TACACS+, you can define netwatch-backup there instead, as long as the resulting session can display the full configuration.

MINI-LINK 6600

MINI-LINK 6600 is Ericsson's packet microwave transport family.

Create a backup account. Create a dedicated user named netwatch-backup in the node's user management. Assign a read-only role if your software release provides one; otherwise use the lowest role that can display the node configuration.

Enable SSH. MINI-LINK 6600 nodes are managed over SSH; make sure SSH management access is enabled and reachable from the Netwatch collector. If you restrict management access by source address, add the collector's IP.

Notes. The node is usually managed with MINI-LINK Craft or a network management system; QUARK uses the node's command-line interface over SSH and performs read operations only.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
