NEC

Prepare NEC devices for QUARK Config Backup.

This guide covers NEC UNIVERGE IX-series routers (for example the IX2000 and IX3000 series).

NEC IX

Create a backup account. Create a dedicated local user — for example netwatch-backup — through the router CLI. The IX platform displays the full running configuration from administrator (privileged) mode, so the account needs administrator rights, or operator rights together with the administrator password supplied as the enable credential in QUARK. QUARK only issues show commands and never enters configuration mode.

Enable SSH. Enable the SSH server in the router's remote-management settings and verify logins from the Netwatch collector succeed. The platform supports restricting management access by source address; permit only the collector's IP where possible. If SSH is unavailable on your firmware, Telnet can be used on an isolated management network.

Platform notes.

  • If you use a shared administrator password rather than per-user privileges, record it as the enable password in the QUARK device entry.
  • Ensure the CLI language is left at its default; localized prompts can interfere with automated retrieval.

Enable backup in Netwatch

Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
