APC
Prepare APC devices for QUARK Config Backup.
This guide covers APC devices managed through a Network Management Card (NMC) running APC's AOS firmware, such as Smart-UPS units, rack PDUs, and transfer switches.
Create a backup account
In the device's web interface, create a dedicated user named netwatch-backup under Configuration > Security > Local Users > Management. Choose the account type carefully:
- Prefer a Device user. Device users have CLI access and can display device settings, but cannot change security settings.
- Read-Only users are limited to the web interface on many AOS firmware versions and cannot log in to the CLI, so they are usually unsuitable for QUARK.
- Use an Administrator account only if your firmware version does not allow a Device user to display the settings QUARK needs.
Enable SSH access
Enable SSH under Configuration > Network > Console > Access (on older AOS 5.x firmware, Administration > Network > Console). Confirm the NMC's IP is reachable from the collector on TCP port 22. If you use the NMC's IP access control feature, permit the collector's IP address.
Platform notes
- QUARK captures the configuration by reading the NMC's settings through the CLI; the account must have CLI access enabled.
- Older AOS firmware versions default to Telnet with SSH disabled — enable SSH and disable Telnet where possible.
Enable backup in Netwatch
Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
