Opengear
Prepare Opengear devices for QUARK Config Backup.
This guide covers Opengear console servers and infrastructure managers (CM, ACM, IM, and related families).
Opengear
Create a backup account. Create a dedicated user — for example netwatch-backup — in the web UI under Serial & Network > Users & Groups. Retrieving the complete device configuration requires administrative rights, so add the user to the admin group; QUARK only reads the configuration and never modifies the device.
Enable SSH. SSH access is enabled by default on Opengear appliances; confirm the service is active in the web UI under System > Services and that the appliance is reachable from the Netwatch collector. Use the service access settings (or the appliance firewall) to permit SSH on the management interface only, and restrict the source to the collector's IP address where your deployment allows it.
Platform notes.
- The backup covers the appliance's own configuration; sessions on attached serial consoles are not touched.
- Newer Opengear models running the NGCS/Lighthouse-oriented firmware expose a different configuration system than classic models; the collector detects the appropriate retrieval method, but the account still needs admin rights in both cases.
- If users authenticate via a central server (RADIUS, TACACS+, LDAP), create the backup account locally so scheduled backups do not depend on the remote authentication service.
Enable backup in Netwatch
Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
