Zhone
Prepare Zhone devices for QUARK Config Backup.
This guide covers Zhone (now DZS) access platforms, including the MX/MXK chassis and Zhone OLTs.
Create a backup account
Create a dedicated account — for example netwatch-backup — through the chassis CLI's user management. Assign a read-only or user-level profile if your software release provides one that can display the complete configuration dump; otherwise assign administrative rights. QUARK only reads the configuration and never modifies the chassis.
Before adding the device, log in as the account and confirm the full configuration can be displayed — privilege behavior differs between MX/MXK software releases.
Enable management access
Telnet has historically been the default CLI transport on these platforms; current MXK releases support SSH. Enable the SSH server in the management settings where available and prefer it over Telnet, falling back to Telnet only on releases without SSH support.
Restrict management access to the Netwatch collector's IP with the platform's management access controls where present, or with an ACL on the upstream aggregation network otherwise.
Platform notes
- The configuration dump includes subscriber port and ONT provisioning, so the versioned history doubles as a service-restoration reference.
- If your network is managed through a central Zhone/DZS management system, device-level backups still give you independent, per-chassis change history.
Enable backup in Netwatch
Once the device is prepared, open its host in Netwatch (Data collection > Hosts) and add the Config Backup macros — the supported status flag, the model code for this platform, and the credentials you created. See Getting started for the full macro list and values.
